Anesthesiology/OT Department

INTRODUCTION

The staff of Anesthesia & Operation Theatre department are very dedicated and committed to provides round the clock services for emergency cases. The department has three Operating rooms (ORs) for surgical and two ORs for Obstetrics patients. Apart from Emergency services, the department also provides elective services five days a week.

Mission: To deliver anesthesia services through up-to-date clinical care based on the latest evidence (research) and knowledge (education).

The Department of Anesthesia believes that:

Infrastructure:

              The department has three separate operation theater complexes. That includes  eight (08) ORs in Main Operation Theater, Three (03) ORs in Gynae OT and Three (03) ORs in Casualty Operation Theater.

  1. Main Operation Theater has eight (08) Operating Rooms dedicated to General Surgery, Neurosurgery, Orthopedics, EYE, ENT, Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery, Plastic and Paeds Surgery. The OT complex also has an eight (08) bedded fully-equipped Recovery Room as well. It has changing and retiring rooms for the surgeons, technicians and other supporting staff. It has an Anesthesia Office for the In-charge of the unit. The main operation theater complex is equipped with a State-of-the-Art Central Sterilization Services Department (CSSD).
  2. Gynae OT has three running ORs and a five bedded recovery room as well. It is a fully dedicated OT for Gynae and OBS patients both elective and emergency.
  3. Emergency OT has fully functioning three ORs along with a six bedded recovery. It is located in the A&E department for the quick access of serious patients.

Trainings: The department is not yet recognized by CPSP for both MCPS and FCPS Training. The department is currently providing trainings in diploma courses for anesthesia technicians. Currently the department has only one consultant i.e. an Assistant professor. There are six (06) Medical Officers and Twenty-two (22) Anesthesia Technicians.

Teaching & Research Activities: The department is fully involved in teaching to the Fourth year and final year students of Bacha khan medical college Mardan. The department delivers lectures to final year MBBS and Bed side teachings to Fourth year MBBS students.

Quality Control: The department focuses on quality control and safety of both patients and healthcare providers. A regular fumigation is done to eliminate any harmful organisms and to provide a germ free environment for surgical procedures.

Future Plan: The department is planning to recruit more consultants as well as supporting staff for a smooth running. We are also planning to recognize the department for postgraduate trainings with PMC and CPSP. The department is also planning to expand its current area and to increase the number of ORs to coup with the increasing flow of patients to the department. We are also procuring Stat-of-the-Art Equipment to meet with the current international standards.
