The department of Gastroenterology was established in June 2021, and currently comprises of a single chamber with separate male and female section. It has two offices each for professor and associate professor. There is a separate room for endoscopy with examination and procedural room as well. Room for medical officers is also available in the ward.
Mission: The mission of the department is to provide highest quality accessible and cost effective patient care while contributing to the global effort to eliminate and prevent diseases related to gastroenterology and hepatalogy especially preventable diseases like hepatitis A, B, C, D, E and diarrhea. We are part of hepatitis control program to eliminate hepatitis C BY 2030.
Number of Beds: Gastroenterology and hepatalogy consist of 15 beds, 08 for males and 07 for female.
Facilities: The unit is equipped with Gastroscopy, Colonoscopy and duedonoscope, the department running twice a week OPD in mmc. We also have hepatitis control program for Hepatitis B and C patients. We provide free treatment to hepatitis B and C patients and free vaccination against hepatitis B. We are providing all the diagnostic procedures in Gastroenterology.
Training: The department is not yet recognized by CPSP for FCPS. The unit has schedule for training of under graduate students.
Teaching and Research Activities: The unit is actively involved in teaching and training and research.
Quality Index: There is a quality enhancement cell in BKMC and quality control cell in hospital. The department closely working with them for quality control and index.
Future Plan: Our plan is to start therapeutic upper and lower G.I.Endoscopy. We are also planning to start ERCP. We are in process to recognize the unit for FCPS training.
